Agha Salman says playing India was "nerve wrecking". — ScreengrabPakistan will play their first match of the Super Four stage in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 and all-rounder Salman Ali Agha cannot wait to play his first international match at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.Agha, 29, who made his one-day cricket debut for the Green Shirts against the Netherlands in August 2022 at Rotterdam, has represented Pakistan in 16 ODIs and nine Tests but never got a chance to play in Lahore, where he was born.Pakistan's next encounter in the Asia Cup will be in the Super Four and as important as it gets, it means a lot for Agha than everyone in the team.
Talking in a video uploaded by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on their social media accounts, Agha claimed that he always wanted to play in front of his home crowd."I am eager to play my first international match in Lahore," Agha began. "It was always a dream to play an international match in front of the home crowd."My family and friends want to see me play live and they are asking for a [match] ticket."The 29-year-old also recalled the first time he played at the Gaddafi Stadium and revealed what he promised to himself at that time."My first match at the Gaddafi Stadium was the final of a U16 tournament. That was when I promised myself that I would work hard and play an international game here."My maiden first-class and list A century also came in Lahore."The first encounter against India was nerve-wracking but all in all, it was a great experience."I think the most special thing about the match against India was Shaheen Afridi's spell." The all-rounder then opened up on his role in the team and how important it is to keep on working hard on an international level."It is difficult to play in middle-order but my experience of domestic cricket has been helping me a lot."It is very important to keep on improving yourself when you are playing on international level and that is what I am doing. My goal is just to play positive cricket according to the team's requirements," he concluded.Pakistan will play their next match on September 6 in the Super Four stage of the Asian event.
